TESCO NOT TO APPEAL DECISION ON GREAT HOMER STREET

Today Tesco announced it would not seek to appeal the recent legal decision regarding its plans at Great Homer Street. This follows discussions with Liverpool City Council (LCC) regarding the future of the site.

LCC has a development agreement with St Modwen to bring forward a large mixed use regeneration project in the Great Homer Street area known as ‘Project Jennifer’. There were concerns that further legal challenges from Tesco could delay this investment, but these challenges have now been avoided.

Instead Tesco will seek an agreement with the council’s development partners to sell their land interest.

Michelle Taylor, regional director at St. Modwen, said: “We are delighted at Tesco’s decision, which means St. Modwen, Liverpool City Council and the local community can focus all of our efforts on bringing this vital regeneration to fruition.

“We are looking forward to delivering a scheme which will have a transformational effect on the local area with new homes, community facilities, shops and significant public realm improvements.

“We will continue to work with our partners to move the plans forward in the coming weeks and months.”
